Sheridan Emergency Management Coordinator Jesse Ludikhuize and his son, Bryce, attended the 2024 Clearmont Day Celebration to bring attention to the Two-Week Ready program.

He added that as well as making people aware of the Two-Weeks Ready Program, Sheridan Emergency Management is also providing

There were several handouts, including a check list of items needed for a Two-Weeks Ready kits that families can collect and have ready should any emergency occur. Items included a flashlight, matches, tarp, rain gear, medications, first aid kit, water filtration system, and even books and cards to keep everyone occupied. There was also information on making a plan to make sure the family is prepared. People with pets should also make sure their pets are safe during an emergency as well.

His son, Bryce, was selected on the national level to represent youth in all the readiest materials.

As one of the most common emergencies in Wyoming are winter storms, and there was a handout on how to be safe during that type of emergencies. There is a higher risk of car accidents, hypothermia, and even heart attacks from overexertion. The handout also advised people to stay off the roads if possible, and prepare for possible power outages, which can often happen due to heavy snow and/or strong winds. Power outages also affect phones and the internet, so a battery powered radio or a rotary phone might be a good back-up measure.

Wildfires, floods and occasionally tornadoes are other weather events that might affect Wyoming communities, and people should know how to prepare in case of such an event occurring.

Interested parties can go to the Sheridan County Emergency Management website at sheridancountywy.gov for more information.

Wyoming has launched a free preparedness mobile app – Wyoming Ready, which can be found at Homeland Security – Wyoming Ready.
