The Wyoming Department of Health announced the death of a Laramie County man that had previously tested positive for COVID-19. According to a news release issued by the DOH Wednesday, the older man’s death represents Wyoming’s second reported death associated with COVID-19. On Monday, the DOH announced that an older man with preexisting health conditions in Johnson County had died late last week after being hospitalized in Buffalo. No known underlying risk factors were related to the Laramie County man’s death.

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center released a statement that the man had been treated at the hospital for several weeks before his death Tuesday. State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist said that unfortunately, we have seen this disease touch another Wyoming family in the worst way, and that while anyone can get sick and has a chance of a serious illness with COVID-19, those who are age 65 and older and people who have certain medical conditions are more likely to experience complications and become severely ill. She added that Wyoming must take this threat seriously, because anyone who is sick can pass the virus on to others, and that’s why it’s critical that everyone do their part to help reduce the spread of the disease.
