At their regular meeting this week, the Sheridan County Commission voted to approve General Purpose Excise Tax (GPET) funding requests from various entities in the county.

County Administrative Director Cameron Duff gave details on who requested funding and at what amounts.

Harry Pollack spoke against public funding of private entities through taxes, citing Wyoming State statute that he said does not allow that.

Commissioner Holly Jennings also spoke against public funds being used in this way.

Both said they weren’t against the entities and what they do for the community, just against public funds being used.

The commission voted to approve $100,000 for Goose Creek Transit; $8,000 for Science Kids; $50,000 for Doubleday Sports Complex; $10,000 for the Bradford Brinton Museum; and $5,000 for Phorge Makerspace.

Commissioner Jennings voted against.
