Ron RichterA Sheridan man was sentenced to prison at a hearing Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
On April 3 of this year, a petition was filed by the State to revoke the probation of 41-year-old Cory Anderson for violating the terms and conditions of his probation for being in possession of numerous drugs on April 2. In November of 2023, Anderson was convicted of two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison for each count, suspended in lieu of three years of supervised probation.
According to court documents, fentanyl, psilocybin, and marijuana were found in Anderson’s residence during a search of his home on April 2 by his probation officer and a deputy with the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office. Anderson was arrested and charged with three felony drug possession charges and one felony endangering children charge for knowingly possessing fentanyl with a minor present in the home. Anderson, at a hearing Tuesday in District Court, admitted to violating the terms of his probation. District Court Judge Darci Phillips revoked Anderson’s probation and sentenced him to the underlying sentence of 2 to 4 years for each of the two possession charges that he was convicted of last November.
Anderson was also arraigned on the charges from earlier this month that resulted in the probation violation. Pursuant to a plea agreement reached with the State, Anderson pleaded guilty to the endangering children charge and the State agreed to dismiss the three felony drug possession charges.
Judge Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement and sentenced Anderson to 4 to 5 years in prison, concurrent to the sentences for violating his probation, meaning Anderson will serve 4 to 5 years in a facility to be determined by the Wyoming Department of Corrections. Anderson was ordered to pay $375 in court costs and assessments and was given credit for 29 days for time served of presentence confinement.

For the misdemeanor domestic battery charge, McKenzie was sentenced to 180 days in jail, which will run concurrent to the sentence for the felony charge.
McKenzie was given credit for 234 days of time served for presentence confinement and was ordered to pay $475 in court costs assessments; $500 in public defender fees; and $213 in restitution to the division of victim services. According to court documents, McKenzie was arrested for the crimes on September 10, 2023 for knowingly or recklessly causing bodily harm to another individual and threatening the victim with a handgun.
