A History Talk on historical figure Frank Canton will be presented April 3 at the Johnson County Library.

Local History Librarian Nancy Tabb will give a talk on Canton, who was a Texas outlaw, sheriff of Johnson County, a US Deputy Marshal, Wyoming range detective, and a member of the invaders during the 1892 Johnson County Cattle War.

According to Tabb, Canton started life as Joe Horner and wound up in the Texas Penitentiary as a young man, and also served two terms as Johnson County Sheriff in the 1880s.

Tabb will present stories on his life and will share her own theory about certain details of Canton’s involvement in the Invasion of 1892.

The History Talk will be on Wednesday, April 3 beginning at 3 p.m. in the Twing Room at the library.

The presentation is free and open to the public.
