Kinskey on Cost of Senate’s Property Tax Reform Bill

State Senator Dave Kinskey (R-Senate District 22) is in Cheyenne for this year’s legislative budget session and he will be updating Sheridan Media during the session.

Earlier he talked about SF0054, the Homeowner Tax Exemption, and how it will help homeowners dealing double-digit property tax increases.

He explained that the bill will set a $200,000 tax credit on everyone’s homes, meaning a home valued at $200,000 would owe $0 in property tax, but homes valued over that amount would be taxed for value over $200,000.

Today he explains the costs to the state if the bill is passed into law.

Kinskey said even with the tax breaks, there will still be enough money for state government to operate, and still give relief to homeowners from recent property tax hikes.

    Letting taxpayers keep more of their own money, should never be considered a “cost” to government. That’s “politician speak” and it reveals that they always think of our money as theirs. They just will now have slightly less of our money to throw away, so they need to be more careful with how they spend OUR money. Why is it that the citizens always have to figure out how to be more cost-efficient with our money, but never the gov’t?

    This will not help most people as housing here is well over $200,000, if I understand this bill correctly.

    Yep, it’s a 200K “tax credit” which will lower your bill by a small amount. Crumbs off the “rulers” table for us peasants.
    The next time we get to vote directly on lowering ANY tax, we should do so. Why some morons vote to re-impose the highest sales tax in Wyoming, is beyond belief! I say vote to lower any tax we can and vote IN low-tax, limited-gov’t Real Republicans, every chance we get. And we may get a chance to fill another vacancy on the Board of Commissioners, soon. Stay tuned!
