SCSD#2 and NWCCD Hold Annual Joint Meeting

SCSD#2 Board of Trustees and The Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD) Board held their annual joint meeting on Monday, Feb. 26 at the Sheridan College Whitney Center for the Arts.

Scott Stults, Superintendent at SCSD#2, spoke to Sheridan Media about the meeting. Items on the agenda included new computer science faulty, Audrey Hirschman was hired to replace Anne Gunn, as well as the high school/college partnership.

Stults said that SCSD#2 and the college have had the partnership for many, many years, and that Whitney was very instrumental in supporting this as well,

The board members heard a presentation from Edith Johnson-LaMeres, Sheridan College and SCSD2 Assistant Superintendent Kristie Garriffa about the partnership between the college and high school in Career and Technical Education, using welding as an example.

“This is another great partnership between SCSD#2 and the college,” Stults said. Students can get concurrent enrollment, where high school teachers, that if they have certification, can offer college credits as well as high school credits. Dual enrollment is somewhat different.

He talked about the benefits of concurrent and dual enrollment, and how the number of students enrolled in these classes has grown over the past year.

He also mentioned the savings on tuition that dual enrollment brings to students and families.

He added that they hold the meeting between Northern Wyoming Community College and SCSD#2 once a year, and it “Accentuates the partnership and the relationship that we have with Sheridan College, it is a tremendous working relationship that we’re working together for the benefit of our students.”
