A grateful department remembers a brother of the shield

Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley took a moment to speak on the fond memories of SPD Sergeant Nevada Krinkee and thank the community for their support during such a difficult time.

Sergeant Nevada Krinkee tragically lost his life in the line of duty on Feb. 13, 2024 while serving the City of Sheridan, a community he called home. 

The SPD prides itself on hiring officers of high character, with a strong moral compass and integrity. The SPD Chief said this was exactly the type of officer and person both he and the Captain saw in Sgt. Krinkee during Krinkee’s initial interview process.

Captain Ringley remembers that at some point after a ride-along Krinkee and Koltiska compared t-shirts and shared a laugh.

And that influence would expand as Krinkee moved up the ranks at the department. As a Patrol Sergeant, Krinkee would embody the ideal qualities of a leader and demanded the same from his team.

The outpouring of support from the Sheridan community for Krinkee’s family, his friends and his brother and sister officers reflect the type of respect and admiration the community feels for not only one of their finest officers but for the department. The Chief said he feels he will never be able to thank the community enough for their support through this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life with Police Honors will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the Golden Dome on the campus of Sheridan College.

A procession will begin at 11th Street and Main Street at noon, proceed south onto Coffeen Avenue to the entrance of Sheridan College and to the Golden Dome. Chief Koltiska is asking community members to pay their respects by lining the procession route.

A private interment will take place after the Celebration of Life for Sgt. Krinkee’s family and close friends.

Sergeant Nevada Krinkee not only enforced the high standards of the Sheridan Police Department, he embodied them. In May of 2022, Krinkee appeared on Public Pulse. As a newly promoted Sergeant, Krinkee had shown SPD leadership that he was competent, capable and driven to lead a patrol team. Having served proudly in the 82nd Airborne and served two tours in Afghanistan, Krinkee’s life is a reflection of selfless service to his community. He enjoyed the adventure and solving problems that helped others. Below is an excerpt of his answer as to why he and his brothers and sisters of the department are drawn to wear the shield.
