Ron RichterA lecture on freedom of speech is scheduled to take place this week at Sheridan College. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
The Thickman Faculty Lecture Series will feature a presentation from Sheridan College adjunct faculty Michael Thomas titled “Freedom of Speech: Then and Now.” The lecture will take place at 6 pm on Thursday, February 22 in Room #153 in the Whitney Academic Center at Sheridan College. After the lecture, refreshments will be available. The event is free and open to the public. According to information from Sheridan College, Thomas will give a history of the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the inclusion of freedom of speech in the Bill of Rights. He will then address the interpretation of freedom of speech through the power of judicial review, the issues of censorship, safe spaces, and social media.
Thomas teaches History of Wyoming and Wyoming Government at Sheridan College. He has been teaching American Government and social studies in public schools for thirteen years and has his master’s degree in American History from American Public University. Thomas also coaches the Sheridan High School “We the People” team. The Thickman Faculty Lecture Series is hosted by the Sheridan College Foundation and is funded by the Thickman Lecture Endowment.
