Wyoming Chief U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl sentenced 25-year-old Richard Wagner to two years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, on March 13, 2023, Wagner was stopped for a traffic violation by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
As the trooper approached the vehicle, he noticed that Wagner was trying to conceal something in the backseat. A search of the vehicle revealed a Glock pistol and a little over 9 grams of cocaine. Having been previously convicted of a felony, Wagner is prohibited from possessing a firearm. The defendant, at a hearing in November of last year, pleaded guilty to the charge. The crime was investigated by The Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
