Governor Pushes for Property Tax Relief and Highlights Wyoming’s Strong Economy in State of the State Address

The 67th Wyoming Legislature convened in a joint session Monday during the first day of the legislative proceedings for the 2024 Budget Session. Miss Wyoming USA Beck Bridger of Sheridan sang the National Anthem to open the session. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

During his State of the State Address, Governor Mark Gordon said the State’s gross domestic product is the highest in history and unemployment is as low as it has been since 2008.

Gordon addressed the impact the Biden Administration’s energy policies have had on Wyoming and the energy industry.

Given this is a Budget Session of the Legislature, Governor Gordon urged Legislators to focus on that key task and pass the conservative budget he presented, one which keeps general fund spending flat when compared to 2021. Gordon noted his proposed budget takes on significant needs like property tax relief, targeting those truly in need. He also asked the Legislature to be mindful of the potential impacts to county resources, roads, and schools when considering Legislation that addresses high property taxes. The Governor also discussed education, mental health and border security in his address. We’ll have more from Gordon’s State of the State in future stories.
