Wyoming lawmakers will begin the 2024 Wyoming Legislative Session on Feb. 12, in Cheyenne.

This year, legislators will be holding a budget session. These sessions typically last 20 legislative days. And except for the budget bill, all other bills require a two-thirds vote from the Senate or House for introduction.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan County Commissioners Tom Ringley and Lonnie Wright said they will be paying close attention to property tax bills.

Last year, many bills were introduced in an effort to reduce property taxes for Wyoming residents. But due to the manner in which the Wyoming Constitution is written, many of those bills died.

This year a number of bills will be considered by lawmakers during the 2024 Budget Session in an effort to reduce the impact on Wyoming residents. To find those bills under “Revenue” on the Legislative Service website, click here.

Lower the mill rate, is all the commissioners have to do, to give us a tax break. And yet they refuse to take this very simple step, which they have total control over. In fact, just three commissioners voting to lower the rate is all that’s needed, to cut property taxes in Sheridan County. Can we elect three people that have brains and can understand they need to provide Tax Relief? Guess it’s always easier to blame the legislature.
