The Clearmont Town Council, at their Monday, Jan. 15 meeting, heard a presentation from Garrett Dotson, CEO of Tree Mechanics, LLC in Buffalo, about the removal and pruning of several trees in the park.

He also talked about several more trees in the park that have a lot of deadwood that needs to be removed.

Dotson said that one tree was close to the power line. He added he was not in favor of removing it because trees are hard to grow in Wyoming. He recommended hazard pruning for many of the trees. The council agreed to have Dotson work up a proposal of the cost and present it to the council at a later date.

Dotson mentioned his company also had a way to reduce the cotton from cottonwood trees, and the council expressed interest in that as well.

His company also does lawn care and feeding of the trees to keep them healthy.

In his report, Mayor Chris Schock had this to say about the town ordinances.

Some of the ordinances have to do with utility bills, and the fact that there are some residents that have past due bills.

It was also brought up by councilwoman Anna Switzer that the town can’t cut off utilities during the winter, and Schock added that when it is real cold he will not disconnect the services as it would create more problems. He said it wasn’t fair for other town residents to pay for those residents who do not pay their bills.

Clerk Kristen Auzqui provided the council with the town code and ordiance that addressed the problem, and she said she wanted to know more about what the policy actually is, and how she can collect the overdue bills.

In other business, the council discussed the upcoming WAM conference, and which of the council members were planning to attend. The town hall also needs repairs, and that will be discussed at the upcoming budget meeting.

Schock also said he gave out 25 hams to Clearmont residents as a thank you hanging up outdoor Christmas lights during the Christmas season.

Maintenance supervisor Pete Bassett talked about heat for the shop, and asked the council if they wanted him to look into electric or propane heat. The council told Bassett to look into propane heat, as it would still work in case of a power outage.

Clerk Auzqui also passed out a sheet with the holiday closures for town hall. The Council also agreed to add Good Friday to the list of closures as well.
