The Sheridan City Council continues to discuss an ordinance and policies and procedures regarding the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Ordinance #2208, which amends the City’s current ordinances pertaining to the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, was tabled by the Council at their last regularly scheduled meeting on March 16. Council also tabled cemetery policies and procedures, as they are intended to be approved at the same time the third and final reading of the cemetery ordinance is approved. Councilman Jacob Martin has introduced an amendment intended to alleviate some of his concerns about the policies and procedures being too restrictive in relation to grave marker heights and standards.
Councilman Thayer Shafer says that once adopted by the Council, the cemetery policies and procedures can be amended if need be.
The Council, at a study session Monday night, were in agreement that the cemetery ordinance and policies and procedures should move forward for consideration at the Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting on April 6.
