On Jan 8, the SCSD#2 board of trustees heard a presentation by Traci Turk honoring the school counselors from the various schools in the district; Chad Rose, Ryan Walker and Ashley Lecholat who presented the All-State Music students and Mike Thomas who introduced the We the People State Championship Team.
Superintendent Scott Stultz talked about SCSD#2 board goals, saying that SCSD#2 continues to offer a high level of learning. He talked about the WYTOPP scores, saying that the spring of 2023 statewide testing indicates SCSD#2 once again ranks first among all 4A districts in aggregate, and he added that SCSD#2 had the highest composite of the 48 districts in the state on the ACT.
He also talked about SCSD#2’s graduation rates.
In other business the board heard from Troy Decker, facilities director, who reported on the proposed Sheridan Events Center property and presented bids for the replacement of the SJHS gym roof, and the drilling of test water wells to increase the water capacity at the high school.
The bid for the gym roof was approved to go to Dave Loden Construction $299,885. The other two bids were from Lowe Roofing in Gillette $344,980 and Ferguson Roofing in Powell, $377,340.
He also talked about the test wells to be drilled near SHS. He said currently the irrigation water comes from a ditch, but it can be an undependable source of water, depending on many factors. He added that the city water would be a high cost to the school.
He presented two slides to the board about the project, and the cost of drilling the test wells.
There was one community member, Nancy Stephens, who addressed the board saying she wanted more transparency from the board.
Shane Rader, board chairman, said that they would have more to share on the topic at the February meeting.
