In October of last year, the Wyoming Arts Council announced the recipients of the Creative Aging Project grant. The grant was created to fund programs designed to provide arts education and social engagement opportunities for Wyoming’s older adults.
The council distributed a total of $125,000 to 20 nonprofits to develop a total of 50 eight-week programs. Here in Sheridan County, The Hub on Smith and the Sheridan Fulmer Public Library both received $10,000. The WYO Performing Arts and Education Center received $7,500.
Educator and coordinator for the WYO PLAY Creative Aging classes at the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center, Grace Cannon-Wallace, announced the upcoming Creative Aging Directing Class being taught by local director Aaron Odom.
Thanks to the grant from the WAC, this class is being offered completely free of charge to anyone over 60 years of age.
During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Odom said when it comes to directing there are many different techniques, but it all comes down to telling a story.

Odom will explore what it takes to direct a theatre production from Feb. 5 – March 25. The class will meet every Monday evening from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the WYO Performing Arts & Education Center and will center around directing the play Trifles, a one-act play by Susan Glaspell.
