On Saturday, January 20, beginning at 11 a.m., the historic TA Ranch near Buffalo will be hosting a Nordic Celebration called the Fire & Ice event. It is to celebrate Nordic/ Danish Heritage as well as promote public health. Kaitlin Giles, owner said in the news release. “If you have ever watched 1883, a part of the Yellowstone series. We are the Norwegian/ Danish pioneers who came across the plains seeking a better life. Our family originally settled in Scobey Montana and made it to Wyoming as my great grandfather wanted to start his own hardware store in Greybull. We love our heritage and want to celebrate the winter by creating a fun winter celebration.

“Our event is well supported by the community. We have the Buffalo Athletic Club as well as other gyms supporting our Nordic games which include a fullsterkur which is rock lifting, caber toss, farmers carry, log press and tug of war. We want people to stay healthy during the winter so our hope is that people can join as a group or tribe so that it can be family/ friend oriented. But we also want people to get to know each other so if individuals participate, we will put them in a mercenary group to beat out the tribes.

“We also have a polar plunge and temporary saunas to heat people back up as well as an Archery competition hosted by Grouse Mountain Archery!! In the evening we will have ice carving, fire performances, aerialists, Nordic storytelling and live music (with flogging molly vibes). We will end the evening with the burning of our Viking Ship sending the old year off to Valhalla.”

Big Lost Meadery from Gillete will have beer and mead. TA Ranch will be hosting a smorgasbord. Food and drink are not included in ticketing. 12& under are free but ticketing is the same for participants and observers.

We will have the Buffalo Area Transit System available for transit to the ranch from two parking locations in town. The first parking location across First Northern Bank and the second across from Bonds Brewing. The transit system will run from 10 am to 10 pm and go at every hour.
