Although the weather has turned cold outside, swim lessons are being offered at the Sheridan County YMCA in the Aquatics Center.
Swimming is not just a fun activity. The ability to swim will offer a person an excellent workout and the ability to engage in a multitude of other watersports such as kayaking, canoeing, surfing and swimming for school sports.
SC YMCA Executive Director Liz Cassiday said the Y has worked to simplify the schedule of swim lessons in an effort to be more available to busy parents and active kids.

Swimming regularly can help keep children’s hearts and lungs healthy. The exercise increases stamina and can even increase coordination and balance.

Most importantly, swimming lessons can save lives. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention more children ages 1–4 die from drowning than any other cause of death.
For children ages 5–14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes.
