SCSD#2 Staff Housing Ready for Fall

On July 24, SCSD#2 announced that the new temporary staff housing will be ready for occupancy this fall.

Scott Stults, Superintendent of SCSD#2, said in an interview last fall that housing was not a new concern in Sheridan, “We’ve seen this lack of housing for years,” But he added that recently they have seen a drastic increase in the price of homes in the area. This increase is making it difficult for teachers to find housing, either a rental or a purchase, that they can afford on a teacher’s salary.

Assistant SCSD#2 Superintendent Rebecca Adsit said that the new housing will help to give new teachers a temporary place to live.

She added, “We are grateful to the Scott Foundation for their partnership with the district to obtain this staff housing to help address the issue of affordable housing in Sheridan. Through both the collaborative work and the financial donations to Sheridan County School District. No. 2, the Scott Foundation enabled the district to purchase the renovated properties and for this, we are thankful.”

Girl’s Softball to be a Spring Sport at SHS

There was standing room only in the Sheridan County School District #2 Board Room at a special meeting held on Oct. 23 to decide if softball could be added as a spring sport at Sheridan High School.

After hearing the comments and views expressed by the audience, Superintendent Scott Stults said he had looked over the figures to start the program, and number of girls that had expressed interest in the program, and gave his recommendation to the board.

After some discussion, the board voted unanimously to accept Stult’s recommendation. There was a spontaneous burst of applause from the audience after the vote.

Shawn Kelly is board president of the Wyoming Mystix softball team, which includes girls from around northern Wyoming, attended the meeting. When asked what he though of the board decision, Kelly said,

He added he would volunteer as much as possible to help with the program.

Coffeen Elementary And John C. Schiffer Honored As Wyoming’s Two National Distinguished Schools

On November 18, Sheridan County School District No. 2 (SCSD2) announced that Henry A. Coffeen Elementary and John C. Schiffer Collaborative School had been selected as Wyoming’s two National Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Distinguished Schools for 2023.

Scott Stults, SCSD2 Superintendent, shared that “We are excited and proud to celebrate these two schools for this prestigious award. Having two schools from the same district recognized in the same year has never happened in Wyoming, making this even more significant.”

Henry A. Coffeen principal, Paige Sanders, commented, “It is an honor to work alongside the staff at Henry A. Coffeen Elementary. Every member of our staff plays a critical role in supporting our students. They bring passion to their work and an unwavering devotion to helping students excel. We are grateful for the recognition, and even more grateful to work with our students and families.”

Mike Swan, principal of John C. Schiffer Collaborative School also expressed his appreciation for his staff and students. “Schiffer is truly a community of learners where every students’ strengths are honored. The staff at Schiffer cannot be matched and the power of their collective work is evident in our students’ growth. I want to congratulate our staff, students, and families for this honor.”
