Chief of the Sheridan Police Department, Travis Koltiska, and Captain Tom Ringley made an appearance to have a little fun and debunk the typical myths one may hear or read in regard to law enforcement.

One such myth heard by the Chief, deals with the duties of a patrol officer’s typical day in Sheridan. The phrase, ‘you should be out solving serious crimes instead of making traffic stops’ is all too often said to officers who may be issuing a citation for a speeding or failure to stop violation.

According to Koltiska, there is no such thing as a routine traffic stop as every stop – statistically speaking – is potentially solving a major crime.

Although the primary component, traffic patrols do much more than simply make driving through the city safer for motorists.

SPD would like everyone to have a safe and happy holiday and a merry Christmas. Should one choose to have a good time and consume alcohol the SPD ask that everyone have a plan to get safely home and not drink and drive.
