The Game and Fish Department has recently responded to reports of three deer with Christmas lights and one with a soccer net entangled in their antlers.

The occurrence is actually pretty common, according to Game and Fish Public Information Specialist Christina Schmidt. Many deer become entangled in lights during the Christmas season and in most cases the entanglement is harmless outside of a cost to the owner of the lights. But in some cases, the entanglement can prevent the animal from eating or being able to traverse through brush.

During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Schmidt informed Sheridan region residents that department personnel responded to visually check all four animals to make sure they were not in danger or distress.

At this time, they are all able to eat and move without trouble, so no action is needed.

However, Schmidt wished to emphasize to the public that Game and Fish personnel do appreciate the public letting them know if something changes with the animals.

So should residents see an entangled deer that does appear to be having trouble seeing, eating or getting around, please call the Game and Fish Department Sheridan Region and report the location.

Reach the Game and Fish Department Sheridan Regional Office at 307-672-7418.

No one seems to mention that the buck deer shed their antlers this time of year so why are they worried about it
