On National Wreaths Across America Day, more than two million volunteers and supporters will gather to remember, honor and teach at more than 4,000 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad for the brave men and women who served this country in the armed services.
Bev Leichtnam and Michelle Parker from the Republican Women of Sheridan County made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to talk about the event and invite the Sheridan community to take part.

The service has been provided by the Republican Women of Sheridan County for the last four years. According to Leichtnam, there are currently 2,200 veterans buried in Sheridan’s municipal cemetery. Last year, the local Wreaths Across America placed 200 wreaths on veterans graves.
Parker said due to the high number of servicemen and women in the cemetery, they lay wreaths in different sections of the cemetery every year, ensuring that all the brave men and women are recognized and remembered.

Wreaths are purchased by residents for $17. The purchases are done for this year, but volunteers are needed to help lay the wreaths as well as retrieve them in January.

This year, National Wreaths Across America Day will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16. Volunteers will begin to lay the wreaths at 9 a.m. Organizers are asking residents to meet at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery office parking area prior to 9 a.m. A ceremony will then take place at 11 a.m. to honor those who served.
