The Sheridan County YMCA and Recreation District basketball seasons are in full swing, but the games and the kids are in desperate need of referees.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Executive Director of the Sheridan County YMCA Liz Cassiday spoke on the need for basketball lovers to volunteer some time to referee some games for both organizations.
The Y and the Rec District split the grade levels of their basketball programs. The Y organizes the game for 2nd and 3rd grades while the Rec District focuses on 4th and 5th grades.
At these beginning stages, many of the children are only learning the sport and require more coaching than refereeing.

According to Cassiday, refereeing the game at this point in their development is not only a good time, but helps in teaching the values of good sportsmanship, the love of competition and teamwork.
