Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue’s mission is to rescue and rehabilitate special-needs cats, provide free and low-cost spay/neuter services to the local community, and assist people who need help keeping their pets during difficult life situations.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, SCSCR board member Alexie Fort spoke on the rescue’s goal to not only accept cats with special needs but also on how staff teaches and provides support to new owners looking to house these felines who require a little more care than the average cat.

Fort also spoke on the high amount of intakes the organization has seen over the course of the last summer season.

To care for these special needs felines, the rescue applies for grants and donations. Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue Event Committee member Bill Rohrbaugh spoke on an upcoming event that involves some of Sheridan’s respected residents being locked up for a good cause.

According to Rohrbaugh, some residents have already volunteered to be prisoners for a day, such as Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Mike McCafferty, who has volunteered to be caged until his $3,000 “bail” has been posted.

The funds will go directly to the rescue and aid in the mission to care for special needs cats as well as provide the spay and neuter services.

Rohrbaugh is looking for more volunteers to brave the challenge and said in the past when events such as this have taken place, he has witnessed people pay to keep volunteers in the cage as opposed to releasing them.
