Once revenue stops coming in from Gillette College, Sheridan College will need to find ways to cover the costs that the revenue is used for.

At the recent Northern Wyoming Community College Board Of Trustees Meeting, President Dr. Walter Tribley proposed that one way to replace the revenue is to find ways to increase full-term enrollment numbers.

A number of strategies such as increasing digital and distance learning as well as increasing available evening courses were suggested.

Once Gillette College becomes accredited, then all revenue to Sheridan College will end, but Dr. Tribley said the accreditation process takes several years, before it becomes official, thus Sheridan College has some time on its side.

Dr. Walter Tribley

“If we were to look at it today, in today’s dollars, that would be a $2-million unmet cost, that our district would be $2-million more expensive than we are receiving revenue. On-going cost, on-going revenue. So we are looking at that in the future and we have some time to get there to make sure that on-going revenue matches on-going cost so that we have a little bit more revenue than cost.”

If and when the lost Gillette College revenue situation can be remedied, and if it can result in Sheridan College having a bigger revenue flow compared to now, Dr. Tribley adds there’s a possibility that there would be enough revenue cushion room to bring athletics bac

Not sure where your speaking from, I actually work at the college, Gillette has wanted independence for a long time. Enrollment is up. The college is in good financial shape. Dr Tribley came and immediately had to deal with covid restrictions and a school which had been over spending for years. He is kind and humble. He sincerely loves the students and is dedicated to growing programs that help them have a full and better life. Sure we are having growing pains but Dr Tribley is not the source or cause.

Property owners in the college taxing district should be very concerned over this. The rapidly increasing property valuations have resulted in about a 30% increase in taxes the past 4 years for many property owners, and even more in some cases. The college district is included in these taxes so it looks like they may be paving the way for a mill levy increase there to support more of the college’s wishes. Not anti-college, but something has to stop!

You’re 🎯 💯! Taxpayers ought to be very concerned about this situation. The sprawling NWCCD empire hasn’t paid attention to the market signals for over a decade, as they totally ignored the demand for online delivery and chose to build EXORBITANTLY expensive brick and mortar facilities instead. Enrollment is in decline nationally and now NWCCD is scrambling to cover their vast empire’s operating costs, etc. As a former business faculty member at NWCCD for 18 years, I can personally attest to their faulty operating practices. I, for one will not willingly pay one more dime in property taxes to subsidize this giant black hole operation. And taxpayers in the know ought to vehemently object to this ongoing heist, as well.

Actually Tribley does need to be fired and any others that were involved with shutdowns that continued forward after initial covid . They are a disgrace. They have put tax payers in Sheridan at risk . And yes our taxes will go up because of it. At least Gillette had the grit to do things right and address the people They gave them a choice . But they wouldn’t have had to if it wasn’t for the problems we have running things at Sheridan College.

Taxpayers need to walk the halls this week and see all the activities planned each day for Sexual Awareness Week. If my kids were attending Sheridan College right now, they would be pulled immediately. Tuesday’s event is called “BJ’s in PJ’s”–if that helps you understand what is going on in those ‘hallowed halls.’
