The Sheridan County Republican Party Central Committee held a special meeting Thursday night to select three applicants to present to the Sheridan County Commission as candidates to replace Sheridan County Commissioner Allen Thompson, who vacated his seat July 31. Sheridan County Republican Party Committeeman for Precinct 2-5 Jim Schellinger explains the process that was used to select the three candidates.

The County Commissioners now have 20 days to select one of the three candidates that will fill the vacated seat through 2024.  All three of the candidates that were selected, Michael Arzy, Bryan Helferich and Holly Jennings, ran for County Commissioner during the last election.

A flawless voting process and excellent choices. The Central committee accurately reflected the will of the Majority of Republican committee-people. The Sheridan County Board now has the same three, high-quality candidates the voters chose in 2022; from which to select a replacement.
Now let’s hope the Commissioners accurately reflect the will of both the Central Committee and the Voters. We’ll all be watching, closely.

The voters rejected theses three candidates….so the voters, in the primary and general elections across Sheridan County have had a say.

Alan Thompson narrowly edged out Holly Jennings by about 2% of the vote. Now that Thompson has resigned, we simply continue down the list and follow the will of the voters. It is completely logical and fair for the next person up, Ms. Jennings, to be selected as the next Commissioner. When the Board selects her, they will be acknowledging the will of both the voters and the Republican Central Committee. In the highly unlikely event that this gets thrown to a single Judge, that will Negate the will of almost everyone involved! Let us not re-visit the extreme divisiveness of the 2000 presidential election! We have important matters to deal with in Sheridan County. The Board should do the right thing, pick one of the three, and move forward.
