cvannoyThe third annual Clearmont Historical Group ice cream social in Branding Iron Park drew a large crowd Sunday, August 6. Around 50 people came to enjoy ice cream, visit, and let the kids play in the park.
In addition to local people, Bob Larsin and Tina Ramirez from Minnesota, stopped by on their way to Sturgis, SD, rally. They enjoyed the ice cream and posing in the old jail in the park. He also talked about why Larsin is spelled with an i. He said they would have over 3000 miles on their trip this year by the time they return home.
Ramirez added about their stop here, and she talked about their trip so far.
This is the third ice cream social that the Clearmont Historical Group has hosted. The first time Ira Roadifer hand-churned the ice cream, but he said he wouldn’t do that again. Last year the group purchased home-made ice cream from Yoder’s Country Market, south of Buffalo, and this year they purchased good quality ice cream from Albertsons in Sheridan. A variety of toppings was offered for the ice cream.
Roadifer said they were offering ’30 flavors of vanilla’ this year.
Clearmont resident Deb Guyer, who has lived 2 miles south of Clearmont for four years, had this to say about the community.
There was a silent auction with various items ranging from field glasses to paintings. Bidding was fairly brisk on the items and money goes to maintenance on the Clearmont Historic Center.
Robert Prusak, Clearmont Historic Group President,
There were several youngsters who enjoyed playing in the park and digging for ‘history’ in the sand tub.
There was no charge for the ice cream sundaes, but donations were welcome.
Matthew Moore, new Clearmont resident, who recently moved in from Washington State, about four months ago, said he was just walking by and saw the social and decided to stop by and join in.
The next meeting of the Clearmont Historical Group will be August 21 at the Sheridan Fulmer Library. The current exhibit at the Center features the Roebling family.
Everyone is welcome at the meetings, and to come and see what the center has to offer the community.
