A flock of ducks decided to take a dip in the Kendrick Park Swimming Pool on Friday, delaying the opening of the pool, but the right duck helped 3 people win money.

The Sheridan Kiwanis Club held its annual Duck Derby at the pool, because the water level in the nearby Big Goose Creek was too high and that posed a danger to anyone who was going to get into the creek and help with the derby.

Instead the rubber ducks were placed at the top of the pool slide, and when the water turned on, the ducks slid all the way into the main pool, and the first three ducks to get past a certain point in the pool were declared the winners.

Jennifer Kahm is the Vice-President of the Sheridan Kiwanis Club and explains what most of the funds raised from the duck derby go towards.

“We use that money for college scholarships, we donate to the Sheridan foster exchange and we do the compass and usually anybody who’s looking for something, we usually try to help them out. You don’t have a strong community without strong children and you got to pour into them and make sure that they’re taken care of and they get their needs filled and that’s what we try to do.”

More than 900 ducks were used in this year’s duck derby.
