cvannoyClearmont Town Council met on Monday night, May 15. In a special meeting held before the regular meeting, the council moved to approve the renewal of the liquor license for the Clear Creek Stop Convenience store, owned by Steve and Anna Switzer.
In the regular meeting, visitor Amy Rowe of the Clear Creek Recreation District gave a report on the upcoming Clearmont Day Celebration, June 24. She said they are planning an all-town garage sale, and people participating will be included on a map, so the town park will be open for the vendors. She said there will be a $20 deposit on the vendor spaces to help prevent no-shows. There will be a derby race and Rowe requested that the street again be blocked off during the event. Powder River Energy will again donate the hamburger for the lunch, and Pastor Cody Ramsay will be the chef.
In the mayor’s report, Chris Schock talked about the repayment of DWSRF #226, but due to the fact there is a problem with the well, the money may not have to be repaid. In a special meeting to be held on May 31, engineer Dave Engels will explain the issue.
He also talked about the upcoming WAM Convention in June. Schock and Jennifer Betz, councilwoman, will be attending the conference. The town is also advertising for bids for a new town truck and a side-by-side for town use. Bids will be taken on the truck until June 1, and on the side-by-side until June 15.
Clerk Vivian Ramsay said she would be out of town from June 13 until July 11, and she will be working remotely during that time.
Mayor Schock reported that due to the fact that the town water tank has to be repainted inside, there will be water restrictions in the town of Clearmont from 5/17-6/05.
Due to the weather conditions when the tank was painted before, the paint did not have a chance to properly cure, but the mayor said they hope the weather will be more favorable this year to make sure the paint cures properly.
Councilman Ronnie Poppenga wondered if the old, abandoned trailer houses across the track could be moved out as they could create a health hazard. The council will look into the matter.
The council also approved three ordinances on first reading, the mill levy, the budget and the vacation of land for the gas pumps for the bus barn.
There will be a special meeting May 31, 6 p.m., and Dave Engels will explain more fully on the problem with Well #3. The next regular meeting will held on June 19 at 6 p.m.
