The Sheridan City Council will soon be considering a bid award for a demolition project of a City owned building. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

In 2018 the City of Sheridan purchased the property at 103 North Gould Street, which included the Cook Ford building. In 2019, the building was evaluated for structural integrity and on February 7, 2022, the City Council approved a resolution establishing a committee to evaluate potential use of the structure. Since that time, it was determined that the building should be demolished and the area be paved to provide additional parking for downtown businesses. City Public Works Director Hanns Mercer, during a city council study session this week, provided details on how the decision to demo the building was reached.

Mercer talked about the scope of the project.

Mercer said the demolition of the building creates 16 additional parking spaces that can be utilized for downtown businesses during the Main Street construction project. The City received a total of five bids for the project and staff is recommending the City Council award the project to WLM Excavation in the amount of $86,200. The bid award is expected to be considered by the Council at an upcoming regularly scheduled business meeting.

If they torn down city hall they could gain more parking if that is all they want; Can the Poll Motor building be used for meetings or schooling? The town whins and cries about empty builds and lack of parking for years. When they built the ‘New’ post office the amount of parking they lost can never be recovered!
