Sheridan Farmers Market On Pause For 2023

A popular food gathering event that normally takes place each summer in Sheridan will not take place this year.

The downtown Sheridan Association has announced that due to the ongoing construction work on Main Street, and the resulting traffic and parking issues, the Sheridan Farmers Market is on pause for 2023.

The market started back in 2001 and was named best market in the state in 2014, by America’s Farmland Trust.

With the passing of Wyoming’s landmark Food Freedom Act, the Farmers Market has been able to increase the variety of goods available from local producers while reaching an ever-increasing customer base.

Despite the struggles posed by a worldwide pandemic, as well as increasing fuel and labor costs, the Market has persevered in providing local producers a venue, and consumers a focal point in their quest for high quality, fresh and healthy foods and lovingly produced hand-crafted items.

Consumers will still be able to source local meats, produce, baked goods and more from the Saturday Farmers Market at Landon’s Greenhouse Nursery and Landscaping, Sackett’s Market, Cross E Dairy and Freedom Foods as well as the Ranchester Farmers Market.

Many of the vendors can also be reached through social media.

Wouldn’t this be a wonderful time to attract people to North Main Street? It seems like there are many wide open spaces and parking lots on North Main that could accommodate Farmers Market and Third Thursday. Is there still a North Main committee?

Like Whitney Plaza which they used for a few years. The empty lot where farmers coop used to be. The land where cms used to sit. BIGGEST reason this needs to keep running is for food prices from inflation imposed on us. Why can’t Brooks and Gould be streets to use also?

I was the same thing. Vacant parking lots, park by the library, Thurmond Park? There are so many alternative locations that can be considered.

Can it be moved to another area like the fairgrounds or the city park or somewhere. I really like that market and it’s organic goods. You are going to impact a lot of the vendors products and services.

Always looking for problems and not solutions. Just move the farmers market to a different location.

I agree, the Downtown Sheridan Association should be looking for solutions. Pausing it isn’t helpful to anyone and may have negative effects past the 2023 season. Yes people can use social media to find vendors but not everyone uses social media. Also, if you’re going to suggest people find Farmers Market vendors online it would be helpful to consumers and supportive of the producers for you to provide a list of vendors from the market so they can more easily be located.

I enjoyed the farmers market when it was held in the Whitney Commons.

Farmers Market should be relocated for this year, not cancelled. An important outlet for growers and consumers alike. And with all the attendees they can’t instead attend other markets that are in a limited space. Do something like “Uptown Downtown Farmers Market” on N Main somewhere, more and more businesses are opening in that end of town.

They could also use the old Auto Dealership building that the city does not know what to do with. Is the third Thursday Down Town Fair also cancelled?

Just have it somewhere else for crying out loud. Not fair to the vendors. We have lots of places.

I’ve always thought a location with some SHADE would be better. What about Kendrick Park?
