Edison Elder, representing the Buffalo Community Rink, spoke to the Buffalo City Council during their last meeting to report on happenings at the ice rink during the fall and winter and to update them on where the organization stands and their plans for the future.

Elder said the organization is now a tax-exempt non-profit 501(c)(3).

They were able to establish ice at the rink on December 19 and they lost ice on March 11, so were able to use the facility for nearly three full months.

They had a number of programs including a “Skills and Drills,” and a weekly pick-up hockey game on Thursday evenings that drew people from Buffalo, Sheridan, and Kaycee.

They also had after school programs through the YMCA as well as families and others in the community that used the rink.

Elder had a couple of recommendations for the council to better utilize the rink year-round.

Elder asked the council for repair and replacement of locks on the storage shed at the rink as well as replacement and maintenance of lighting.

The council said the city will work with the organization and look into their requests for the facility.
