Local Representative Richard Tass has once again brought a bill to session that would put a waiting period on individuals that wanted to get an abortion. Representative Tass ran the same bill in last year’s General Session and he shared the details on the legislation that is working its way through the process in the current Budget Session.

House Bill 197 was introduced with a vote of 43 yay, 16 nays, and 1 excused. The local delegation were unanimous supporters of introducing the measure. Tass said that the bill was then sent to the Judiciary Committee.

During the bills run in the 2019 session, the abortion waiting period legislation died in the Senate Labor Committee due to not being voted on before the deadline to report out of committee. Before its demise, the measure was passed by the House with a vote of 36 yays, 22 nays, and 2 excused. All of the local Representatives voted in favor.
