cvannoyThere were several honorees at the Monday, Jan 9, SCSD#2 board meeting. Traci Turk honored the school counselors, and several joined her at the meeting.
Football player Colson Coon was honored for being the Wyoming State Gatorade Player for the second year. Activities director Kasey Garnhart and Coach Jeff Mowry made the presentation. Mowry said this about Coon
He also honored Marshall McEwen as assistant football coach of the year and Kelly Glackin as girls’ tennis coach of the year. Superintendent Scott Stults presented two awards of distinction to school board members, Shane Rader and former board chairman Sue Wilson. Michael Thomas presented several of the We the People State champions from Sheridan High School.
Stults, in his superintendent’s report, talked about some of the goals the district has set, and he compared the school to how a coach wins football games.
He also mentioned graduation rates at SHS, saying that SHS currently had an 85% graduation rate, but the goal is 90%.
He also added that on next Monday and Tuesday SHS will host All-State Music. There will also be a gala concert on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
Stults also approached the board about teacher housing.
Stults added this would not be long term housing but would give the teachers time to find housing in the area. The board discussed the proposal in executive session. There will be more on this story later on Sheridan Media.
Troy Decker presented a bid on the SJHS Woodshop Dust collection upgrade, saying that the ESSER Covid money would be used for the update, and that it would improve air quality in the Woodshop. Van Ewing Construction had the lowest bid for the project at $789,500.
Several community members, Sarah Smothers, Sam Grover and Douglas Wheeler spoke out about the books in the school library and gender pronouns, which they felt were inappropriate for students. The speakers felt the board should look at the books and take action to remove them from the school library.
Trustee Shelta Rambur asked about policy IJL, which concerns library materials at the school, and Turk said the board was still discussing the policy.
Jerry Pauli commended the school board, saying that the district’s accomplishments support it being the “best school district in Wyoming.” He referenced an article in the Sheridan Press about SCSD#2, but saying they left out the school board. “A school district cannot be the best without a superior school board.” He said there were three main duties of school board members: 1) Hire a great superintendent; 2) Align district polices with federal and state laws and Department of Education requirements and 3) Fiscal responsibility.
Next meeting will be on Feb 6 at 6 p.m. at the Central Office.

How about let’s take care of our working force who take care of the kids like our cooks and our janitors whom this District can’t seem to keep employed. Ha. Maybe the problem lies within the district and how they treat their janitors and their Cooks. Look at bigger picture scsd2. You might be the problem.
