Johnson County’s Republican Central Committee will have a public meeting this Thursday to consider applicants interested in taking the county clerk position, which has been vacated by Kate Harriet.

Harriet won the election for Johnson County Clerk and was scheduled to take the position in January, but has since withdrawn from the position.

Commission Chair Bill Novotny, once he was informed by Harriet that she was withdrawing from the position, submitted a letter to Johnson County Republican Party Chairman Robert Garrison, asking him to convene the Central Committee to select three candidates whose names will be forwarded to the commissioners, who will then appoint one of them to the position.

Garrison has advertised for Letters of Interest to be submitted to the committee by those wanting to serve in the position.

The meeting for the selection of the three candidates has been scheduled for Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the small gymnasium at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center.
