SCSD#3 Board Discusses Several Topics

SCSD #3 Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Several policies were reviewed, and in action items discussion centered around assistant coaches, and that they may be hired for student activities at the discretion of the activities director and superintendent.

Jennifer Betz, activities director, reported on the SCSD#3 sports season, and the fact that the month has been busy at the school. Student council and FFA had an event, and during the month of Nov. there are music and FFA events throughout the month.

She said that Junior High Volleyball finished and there are currently eight girls for the upcoming girls’ basketball season. She talked about finding coaches.

She said there is still an opening for an assistant coach.

Maintenance supervisor Jay Buhr said everything is winterized at the schools. In response a question from Trustee Chris Schock about the Arvada school, which is still mothballed, Buhr responded that it was winterized, and it was ‘still there.’

In his technology report, Superintendent Chase Christensen talked about the WY-BILT Grant, and the Newline Interactive boards. He talked about an upcoming conference on literary in New Orleans in March. Christensen said that around five staff members from ACSH plan to attend the conference.

He also mentioned that the first five Interactive boards just arrived for the students.

Christensen reported on MAP reading fluency, a screening and progress monitoring assessment for grades k-5.

He also reported that several new books that were purchased for the reading as well as the electronic books so students can get experience reading electronic and as well as traditional books.

Christensen also talked about this year’s school focus:

He mentioned the Portrait of a Teacher, which is a product of the University of Wyoming, and is a way for teachers to find out what students need to learn for graduation and what the teachers can do to help them achieve this. He added that this gives them an idea of what the teachers and staff feel is the most important things that teachers do for students in SCSD#3.

The next board meeting will be Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
