The Sheridan County Commission voted to ratify an agreement for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Grant for the coming fiscal year.

The roughly $13,000 in funding is awarded to the county, who holds and then distributes the funding to Volunteers of America of the Northern Rockies, who in turn runs the county’s juvenile justice programs through an agreement with the county, and partially funded through the grant.

The commission also authorized a request from Sheridan County Public Health to fill a full-time state staff nurse position.

Salary will be just over $4,400 per month funded 65% by the state and 35% by the county.

A letter of notice of approval was ratified for the Sheridan County Prevention Work Plan.

Greetings. I just wanted to share some information about the OJJDP agreement. The statements here are a bit inaccurate. The State of Wyoming receives grant money from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention as a non-participatory state. These monies are awarded to help move non-participatory states toward compliance with the Juvenile Justice Act regarding detention standards and the collection of data relating to disproportionate minority contact. Volunteers of America is the fiduciary agent of these monies. The Sheridan County Justice Office has historically applied for this grant on behalf of the County, and it is the Sheridan County Justice Office that offers a majority of the county’s juvenile justice programs that are not affiliated with the State. Juvenile justice programs affiliated with the State are offered through the Department of Family Services.
