cvannoyOn Friday, September 16, at 1:30 p.m., the Clearmont Historical Group is hosting a National POW/MIA Recognition Day program at the Clearmont at the Clearcreek Valley Veteran’s Memorial and the Clearmont Community Center.
The program will honor those who were Prisoners of War and those who are still missing in action. The program will start with an opening ceremony by Ira Roadifer at the Veteran’s Memorial. There will be a flag ceremony presented by Roadifer and Rudy Pearson, with music provided by Will Betz and the Arvada-Clearmont Junior High and High School Band.
The program will then move to the Clearmont Community Center to hear various speakers. Cynthia Vannoy will talk on the Clearmont and Douglas POW Camps that were opened near the end of WWII; Fran Felz will speak about 2nd Lt. Reba Whittle who was the only female American POW in WWII; Pearson will talk about POW/MIAs on foreign soil; Roadifer will speak on Dave Dorman and Richard Weber. Robert Prusak will end the program with a talk about Lowell E. Slayton POW #52285 Stalag Luft VI, and closing remarks.
According to the news release, the program is: Presented in appreciation of the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who valiantly fought and continue to fight to preserve America’s freedom.
Refreshments will be served after the program and all are welcome to attend.
The last CHG Powder River Tour of the season will be held on Saturday, September 17. Call Ira Roadifer at 307-758-4625 or the CHC 307-758-4685. Lunch will be provided and there will interesting historical information provided along the route. $40 per person.
