Johnson County School District #1 has added a professional that is a rare find, according to Special Programs Director Valerie Hurm.

Hurm told the school board about finding a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) for the district.

Hurm explained that the BCBA works in a similar fashion as an occupational therapist or an speech therapist with students on behavioral challenges individually, in groups, and in the classroom.

The position requires a specialized, advanced degree which is why Hurm referred to the new BCBA as “a gem.”

The board later accepted the Employment Requests for the month, approving the hiring of Jennifer de Raoulx as the district’s Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
