A contract for emergency medical services was a topic of discussion at Monday night’s Sheridan City Council study session. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

In May, the Sheridan City Council approved a notice of termination of the contract with Rocky Mountain Ambulance for emergency medical services for the City as City Attorney Brendon Kerns said the current contract was not meeting the needs of the city or the service and the notice of termination was necessary so that the City could move forward with a Request for Proposals for a new contract. The request for proposals for EMS services for the City closed on July 29 and the City received three proposals; AMR, Rocky Mountain Ambulance and Northeast Wyoming Ambulance Service. City Administrator Stu McRae, at a City Council study session Monday night, recommended the City accept the proposal from Northeast Wyoming Ambulance Service. McRae provided details of the contract proposal from NEWAS.

McRae said the County requested an even split of the cost share following the current fiscal year.

According to the proposal submitted to the City, Campbell County Health in Gillette and Sheridan Memorial Hospital are proposing the formation of a jointly funded limited liability corporation known as Northeast Wyoming Ambulance Service, to contract with the Sheridan-area to provide ambulance services for the City of Sheridan and Sheridan County. The LLC will utilize the expertise of Campbell County Health-Emergency Medical Services (CCH-EMS) to manage comprehensive EMS operations within the Sheridan-area. The proposal further states that if the City Council awards the contract for ambulance service to NEWAS, the Northeast Wyoming Ambulance Service, LLC will be formally established in the fall.
