Ron RichterA change of plea hearing was held Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court for a Sheridan man involved in an incident in downtown Sheridan earlier this year. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
On March 13, 40-year-old Jack Kekich was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and battery for attempting to cause bodily injury to another individual with a knife and threatening the individual with a knife at a bar in downtown Sheridan. Kekich, at a change of plea hearing Tuesday in District Court, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of reckless endangering, which is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one-year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Count one was dismissed at a pretrial conference on July 7th. The guilty plea to the amended charge was part of a non-binding plea agreement that was reached with the state.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the plea deal and sentenced Kekich to 180 days in jail, suspended in lieu of one-year of supervised probation. Kekich was ordered to pay $200 in various court costs and fees and was given credit for two days of time served.

What a joke. We are on the fast track to California if we let felons plea down to simple misdemeanors with probation instead of the multiple felonies and real jail time that should have come their way. Slap….on….the….wrist.
