The Sheridan Police Department has recently stated as an organization that the people of Sheridan have always been willing to help fellow community members and the SPD. The department has recently announced the launching of a new program and are requesting the assistance of their community.

The SPD understands that many of the residents and businesses of Sheridan have on site cameras that record video footage. The department would like the community to know that video footage could help solve a crime, but investigators may not know the footage exists or one may not know of the crime being investigated to volunteer it. To bridge this gap, the detective division of the SPD is soliciting information in an effort to create a contact list of video sources throughout the city of Sheridan.

SPD Chief Travis Koltiska told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program that Lieutenant James Hill is actively compiling the list of volunteer contributors.

The SPD is inviting the community to share contact information and footage that their camera has captured. In the future, if it is believed a camera may have relevant footage one could be contacted by the SPD and asked about any video in existence.

The SPD wishes to specify that they are not requesting login information or access to any camera system. The SPD will only use privately provided surveillance footage to investigate crimes.

The department believes this could be a technique allowing the SPD and the community to continue to work together in an effort to prevent and solve crime in Sheridan.

To be a part of this or should the public have questions, contact Lt. James Hill at jhill@sheridanwy.gov or 307-672-5605.
