Now here’s Sheridan Media’s look back in time, to 100 years ago, by reporter Pat Blair as published in the Sheridan Enterprise newspaper on Feb. 6, 1920.

William B. Norton, one of the first three Americans to receive the Distinguished Service Cross for valor on the field of battle in France, has retired after 30 years of service in the regular army and has come to Sheridan to make his home.

Byron Shackelford, a sheet metal worker in Sheridan, was instantly killed at 3 o’clock this afternoon when a scaffold on which he was working broke. U. G. Shores, a carpenter also on the scaffold at the time, was seriously injured.

Influenza has been the cause of six more deaths in Sheridan and the vicinity, including two new mothers and their babies.
