Repairs are complete and the other side of one of the most scenic highways in the country will soon reopen.
The Montana Department of Transportation has announced that the Montana side of the Beartooth Highway will open to motor vehicle traffic beginning at 5pm Friday (July 22nd).
Snowmelt and flooding that occurred one month ago damaged six areas of the highway, but most of them were in flat areas, which made it easier to repair.
The Department says construction crews were able to finish repairs about one week ahead of schedule.
The Wyoming side of the highway, which was not damaged, reopened about 3 weeks ago, but a road barrier was placed at the Beartooth Ski Area, which is about 3 miles south of the Wyoming-Montana border.
Night-time closures of the highway are still in effect from 7pm to 7am, Monday thru Thursday, because of overnight construction work.
The highway normally closes for the season in middle-October.
