Johnson County’s Commissioners were presented with a request to purchase software to protect the county’s computer systems from hacking.
Don Devore, the county’s Information Technology (IT) consultant, told the commissioners that software with multi-factor authentication (MFA) would protect the county from a weakness he discovered in the system.
He explained there is software available for a monthly fee of $30.
Devore also said if the county does not have the MFA software and then has a claim with cyber security insurance, the claim could be denied.
He estimated it would take roughly 12 hours of his time to install the MFA software.
The commission voted to approve the software purchase and installation.
