Her parents met in Big Horn, Wyoming where her mother was an elementary school teacher and her father worked for Mr. Bradford Brinton on his ranch. Harry and Hazel made their home in Big Horn.  The family rented different ranches which necessitated the children attending different rural schools in Banner, Kearney, and Meeteetse, Wyoming. In 1947 while working on the ranch in Meeteetse her father was struck and killed by lightning. The family then returned to Big Horn.  It was then that Kathleen attended the Ursuline Academy in Great Falls, Montana.  In 1951 she graduated from Central Catholic High School in Great Falls.  She then attended Sheridan College where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1953.  Kathleen taught at Woodland Park School in Sheridan and in Dayton, Wyoming. Where they continued to live until her death.

Kathleen was active in the Catholic Church.  She belonged to Homemakers Clubs in each county where they lived and received the Queley Award for fifty years of membership and served in many offices.  She loved to dance, especially the Waltz with Clarence and Polkas and Square Dance.  Kathleen loved the Big Horn Mountains.  Her first trip up Red Grade was at three weeks old in a laundry basket as her dad wanted to go fishing.  She enjoyed her flowers, local Wyoming History, visiting with friends, sewing, and quilting.
