The snowpack and snow-water content in the Bighorn Mountains didn’t change much from January to February, and is still below the 30-year average for this time of the year.
The US Department of Agriculture reports that as of March 1st, most of the readings in the Tongue River and Clear Creek Drainage areas range from 77-to-96 percent of median.
As a whole both drainage areas are at 89% for February which is unchanged from January, but is down from February of 2021.
Precipitation for those areas are at 105% for the Tongue River basin and 101% for the Powder River basin.
As for the rest of Wyoming, the South Platte basin area, which includes the city of Cheyenne, has the lowest numbers at 66% while the Laramie River basin is the highest at 97%.
Data is collected at remote sites that transmit real-time snow-water content and precipitation data via a satellite link throughout the month, as well manual data which was collected last week.
