It wasn’t just the National Parks in northwest Wyoming that had a record number of visitors in 2021.

The trend also happened at one park in the northeast part of the state.

Devils Tower National Monument reports having more than 550,000 recreational visits in 2021.

That’s the first time in the park’s history there have been more than 1/2 million visitors in 1 year, and the 2021 numbers are the most since 2017, when there were 499,000 visits.

The park also set six monthly records during 2021.

Those happened in January, March, April, May, June and September.

The month of June had more than 108,000 visits.

The park superintendent says park staff and the community felt the influx of visitors last year.

At times it was challenging as the park often reached parking capacity by 10am each day during the summer.

Also visitors paid fees upon exiting in an effort to reduce hour-long lines outside the park that often-impeded access to local businesses
