Johnson County School District #1 will be hosting two community discussions concerning the proposed changes to graduation requirements within the district.

According to information released by the district, Superintendent Charles Auzqui

has recommended adjusting graduation requirements from 28 credits to 24 credits starting in the fall of 2025.

This proposed change, planned to be implemented over the next four years, is designed to offer greater flexibility in school programming, address funding challenges, and better align with district staffing and student opportunities.

Also part of the discussion will be addressing the currently projected decline in student enrollment and how this trend led to the recommendation to reduce graduation credits.

The discussion will look at the broader impact on funding and operations across all schools within the district, providing a clear perspective on how these adjustments are essential for the long-term sustainability of JCSD#1.

Parents and community members are encouraged to attend, engage with district leadership, and learn more about the key factors influencing this decision.

The discussions will be held on Wednesday, October 30 at the Buffalo High School Auditorium beginning at 6:00 p.m.; and on Tuesday, November 5 at the Kaycee K-12 Multi-Purpose Room beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The district is asking for participation to help navigate these challenges together and plan for the future of the district’s schools.
