While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Johnson County Commission Chairman Bill Novotny spoke on the invasive species and the damage it has caused the area.

According to the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service, the invasion of the Russian olive and the negative impacts are widely seen in many areas of Wyoming including, but not limited to, the Big Horn Basin, along the North Platte River, and many parts of the Powder River Basin.
Novotny said residents and visitors will see the efforts of the district and the county this winter.

In 2019, the City of Sheridan and the Sheridan Community Land Trust joined forces and received grant funding to remove approximately 10 acres of the invasive plant.
